From capital letters to capital City
Hotel Filigrane’s added value is its eminent 2nd arrondissement location. Exploring the Bourse and Grand Boulevards districts on foot, starting from rue Vivienne, is best way to discover quintessential Paris. The museological beauty of its monuments, the authentic cachet of its façades, the backstreets and nooks and crannies are just some of the city’s best-kept secrets. Not to mention the lively vibes of the boulevards, terraces, markets, bistros and other meeting places that are always abuzz.
Out and About
Truly parisian monuments
The places of interest around Hotel Filigrane are legion. These include, naturally, the Bourse and Bibliothèque Nationale de France. There are also two opera houses, the Comique and Garnier, Palais-Royal, the Comédie Française and, just a short distance away, the Louvre. Paris in all its splendour is here to be enjoyed on foot from no. 40 rue Vivienne. Certain monuments can be visited, while other are to be contemplated; some are unmissable theatres, where the classics are performed with a modern twist. The nearby Drouot auction house is another major historical destination. Whichever you choose, the Hotel Filigrane team will be happy to recommend the very latest comprehensive updates on these monuments, which are very much alive.
Shopping for something special
Covered passages
The Passage des Panoramas is on the doorstep of Hotel Filigrane. The entire area is actually a maze of covered passages, built during the 19th century to protect customers from rain: The Jouffroy and Verdeau Passages, Galeries Feydeau, Montmartre, Saint-Marc, Vivienne and Colbert are boast authentic mosaics and glass roofs, some of which are punctuated with atypical shops. All you have to do is look out for miscellaneous items that can find only in Paris, such as rare fragrances from Maison Binet-Papillon, great vintages from Caves Legrand, design creations by Victoria Maignant, or decorative curios Maison du Roy. And whilst you’re at it, why not pick up a selection of mini-pastries from Pain d’Épice? Then, once you’re out in the open air, in rue Vivienne itself, why not pick up a box of chocolate pistoles from Maison Debauve & Galais, so that you can move on, replete, to other unmissable Parisian places of interest, for trendy shopping in the rue Saint Fiacre at L’Appartement Sézane for fashion goods and The Socialite Family for decorative items, just a stone’s throw away. All are in the vicinity of Hotel Filigrane and are as eyecatching as they are invitations to make well-informed purchases.

Top addresses
One of the riches that lies in the Hotel Filigrane is supremely human. Despite the fact that some of the wax figures on display at the nearby Musée Grévin have been there for over 140 years, the area around the rue Vivienne is alive and buzzing. This is illustrated amply by the enticing gourmet Bourse food market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, or further along by the bistros in rue Montreuil, conveniently pedestrianised so that can nip from one terrace to another. The Grands Boulevards beat to the rhythm of the major department stores, cinemas and the leading brasseries, which are not to be missed. In the same vein, newcomer Babille is a supremely festive establishment, just a hop, skip and a jump from Hotel Filigrane. And when you’re called ‘Filigrane’, it’s impossible to leave out two closely related addresses. One, Caffé Stern, is set in a time-honoured engraving workshop founded in 1834. History doesn’t teach us whether love notes were ever printed there, but it is now an Italian bistro, as romantic as they get. The other is Au Petit Riche, a restaurant and veritable institution since 1854, which is undoubtedly one of the Bourse district’s best-frequented hangouts.
Transport
Network at work
Another of Hotel Filigrane’s assets is its close proximity to public transport, making it easy to travel around the city, and cross the Seine, from the Right Bank to the Left Bank. In addition, when it comes to gentle transport, there is a Vélib’ bike hire station right in the rue Vivienne. There are also three stations on four Metro lines and a large number of bus routes in the area. Everything you need for heading straight to the Marais or the Louvre is within walking distance.
